Turkish UH-1 military helicopter crashes in a residential area of Istanbul

Four Turkish military personnel were killed when a UH-1 helicopter crashed during an exercise on Monday.

A Turkish UH-1 military helicopter crashed in Istanbul’s Sancaktape on 26 November.

According to local media, three occupants died in the crash, one was injured. But later Turkish state media reported that 4 soldiers killed in military helicopter crash in Istanbul.

The aircraft went down while flying over Sancaktepe, a neighborhood in the east of Istanbul, according to local media outlets.

The helicopter was reportedly returning from a routine training flight and crashed during landing at a nearby military base.

The UH-1 or also named as a Huey is a US-made utility military helicopter powered by a single turboshaft engine, with two-blade main and tail rotors. The UH-1 was the first turbine-powered helicopter to enter production in 1960 for the United States military, and more than 16,000 have been built since.
