The Russian non-governmental media group Mil.Press has announced that the “Modern Aviation Technologies” is suspended development of its SR-10 forward-swept wing jet trainer aircraft.
Test pilot of MAT, Viktor Korolev has told the Mil.Press that the Russian government has not appropriated funds for start mass production of new SR-10 light jet trainer aircraft for the Russian Airspace Force.
The source in the company also confirmed to Mil.Press correspondent that all work on SR-10 was suspended.
“Until money is allocated,” he summed up, refusing to dwell on details.
The SR-10 is a single-engine light aerobatic jet trainer aircraft that was designed by Modern Aviation Technologies (KB “SAT”) design bureau to meet the pilot training requirements of the Russian Air Force and private aircraft operators.
The SR-10 monoplane jet trainer aircraft is made of modern composite materials. Also, the newest SR-10 is fitted with forward-swept wings facilitating stability and maneuverability at low speeds.
According to the National Interest, the SR-10 made its debut earlier this year at the MAKS 2017 airshow outside of Moscow in 2017.
The aircraft is simple and cheap and should provide the Russian Air Force with an inexpensive intermediate jet trainer to fill the gap between the Yakovlev Yak-152 piston-engine primary trainer and the high-end Yakovlev Yak-130 Mitten advanced jet trainer, which is closer in performance to a true combat aircraft.
