Indian Mi-17 transport helicopter crashed in Kashmir

Two people were killed when an Indian Mi-17V-5 transport helicopter crashed Wednesday morning in Indian-administered Kashmir.

According to the local source, the Mi-17V-5 helicopter of Indian Air Force crashed near Budgam, 7 km from the Srinagar International Airport. At least two bodies were found at the site.

The military helicopter crashed in an open field near Garend Kalaan village in Budgam at 10.05 am, news agency PTI said as it quoted officials. The helicopter broke into two and caught fire immediately.

Later, Indian police say officials have recovered four bodies from the wreckage of an Indian air force helicopter that crashed in Indian-controlled sector of Kashmir.

Photos and videos have been posted on social media, showing what appears to be the crash site and the wreckage of the Mi-17 helicopter.

Both India and Pakistan claim all of Muslim-majority Kashmir, but control only parts of it. The two countries have fought three wars and a limited conflict since independence from Britain in 1947 – and all but one were over Kashmir.
