Georgia develops new GMM-120 mortar system

Georgia’s State Military Scientific-Technical Center Delta has developed new GMM-120 mortar system based on a modified truck chassis , reported military-informant.com.

The new GMM-120 mortar system is equipped with a GPS navigation system, tactical computers and tablet-secured high-level communication system.  Like all mortars, it is a high-angle-of-fire weapon used for indirect fire support.

The GMM-120 mortar system is a new generation mortar, designed for a rapid rate of fire. GMM-120  developing  to meet the potential requirements of the Georgia’s Army as well as export markets.

The main mission of STC Delta originated from the state interest of Georgia and their national defensive strategy. The main task of the center is facilitation of the development of the national military industry, design-implementation in the production of up-to-date and innovative military technology, design, creation and serial production of combat equipment and armament meeting the requirements of world tendency.

The GMM-120 is equipped with a modern digital fire control and navigation systems. The rate of fire for the mortar system is 15 rounds per minute with a firing range from 480 m to 7,100 m. The vehicle can carried a total of 50 of mortar ammunition.

In road position, the 120mm mortar is stored inside the vehicle. In less than few minutes, the GMM-120 can be ready to fire, and the 120mm can fire through two large hatches in the roof.

For it’s self-protection, the GMM-120 is armed with a 12.7mm machine gun mounted at the front of the roof crew cabin.
