GDELS unveils new NEMESIS self-propelled howitzer

General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has officially unveiled its new NEMESIS 155mm self-propelled howitzer at this year’s International Defence & Security Exhibition in Madrid.

The system is built on the ASCOD 2 infantry fighting vehicle chassis and incorporates an unmanned Artillery Gun Module (AGM) originally used in the wheeled RCH 155 platform.

According to the company, NEMESIS is designed for high firepower with minimal crew requirements. The vehicle can be operated by just two personnel and is capable of delivering precision strikes at ranges of up to 54 kilometers with standard ammunition and up to 70 kilometers when using extended-range projectiles.

The platform features a newly integrated 1,100-horsepower engine, providing enhanced mobility and tactical flexibility in battlefield conditions. With a fully automated loading and firing system, the NEMESIS offers rapid response and shoot-and-scoot capabilities, aimed at increasing survivability and effectiveness in high-intensity conflict scenarios.

The NEMESIS is being positioned as a future replacement for the legacy American-made M109 howitzers currently fielded by the Spanish Army. The older M109 systems have served for decades but are increasingly viewed as outdated in the face of evolving operational requirements.

In addition to the NEMESIS platform, GDELS is also presenting the PIRANHA AAC, a wheeled 10×10 artillery system.
