GDELS unveiled new medium mechanized bridge system

General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has unveiled a new medium mechanized bridge system based on the 8×8 wheeled armoured vehicle at Eurosatory 2018.

The medium mechanized bridge system, called the Variable Folding Bridge (VFB), is designed to provide tactical gap crossing capability for mechanized infantry units. VFB allows the crossing of unprepared gaps up to 15 m for wheeled and tracked vehicles with loads up to MLC50.

The new Variable Folding Bridge (VFB) is a flexible and modern bridge system, which can be temporarily or permanently fitted on various medium-weight wheeled and tracked armored vehicles.

With the Bridge Launching Mechanism (BLM) by Pearson Engineering, the Variable Folding Bridge can be attached to the vehicle via a standard Pearson Engineering Jettison Fitting Kit.

The VFB at Eurosatory 2018 was mounted on a standard 8×8 wheeled armoured vehicle PIRANHA 3.
