French Minister of Defense visits Renault Trucks Defense

French Minister of Defense Jean-Yves Le Drian made visit to Fourchambault, a few kilometers from Nevers this Thursday at the site of Renault Trucks Defense.

The company is specialized in military vehicles. 90% of the army’s engines are produced by Renault Trucks Defense (RTD). It has 1,300 employees, most of whom are based in France. Renault Trucks Defense has widely-acknowledged expertise – more than 30,000 military vehicles in operation worldwide – and its greatest success story remains the VAB.

The minister came in particular to hear the concerns of the employees, who worry about the potential buyer.

In early November, the Swedish group Volvo, owner of RTD, announced its intention to sell.

Volvo Group Governmental Sales (VGGS) – which groups armoured vehicle and military truck brands Acmat, Mack Defense, Panhard, Renault Trucks Defense, and Volvo Defense into a division that employs around 1,300 people – is to be sold following a consultation with employees.
