Egypt plans to purchase a batch of 50 Tigr special armored vehicles for its Interior Ministry, Military Industrial Company’s CEO Alexander Krasovitsky said in an interview with TASS at the Army-2017 international military technical forum.

“Yes, work is under way. The issue concerns 50 vehicles and we will probably sign a contract in the near future,” he said.

The Tigr is a multi-role, all-terrain light special armoured car designed by police and defence forces. The Tigr is in the inventories of the Russian Interior Ministry, National Guard and other law enforcement and armed services and enjoys good export prospects.

The Tigr is produced in a wide-range of variants for a number of applications. GAZ-2975 is the military variant of the GAZ-2330 Tigr, and the GAZ-233001 is an unarmoured version developed for the civilian market.

GAZ-233034 and GAZ-233036 SPM-2 are multi-role armoured police vehicles designed for the police and law enforcement agencies. The SPM-2 offers a NATO STANAG 4569 level 2 ballistic protection.
