Chinese Ministry of Defence (MoD) or, more precisely, the Ministry of National Defense People’s Republic of China released imagery showing the big group of the newest transport aircraft, called the Y-9, being used during a flight training exercise on April 10, 2018.
According to the press department of the Chinese MoD, a group of newest Y-9 transport aircraft attached to an aviation division of the air force under the PLA Western Theater Command taxi take part in a flight training exercise on April 10, 2018.
The Y-9 is one of the most modern transport aircraft on the service of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force. It is a medium-sized, medium-range transport aircraft produced by Shaanxi Aircraft Company and developed on the Soviet Antonov An-12 bases.

The Y-9 is powered by four Wojiang FWJ-6C turboprop engines, and equipped with 6-bladed JL-4 composite propellers. The tail ramp is capable of handling vehicle cargo. The aircraft is capable of transporting 25 tons of cargo, or configured with 106 troop seats in the troop transport role, or 72 stretchers for the medical evacuation role, or up to 132 armed paratroopers in the para-drop role. The dimension of the cargo bay is 16.2m X 3.2m X 2.35m (length X width X height).
