Chinese-made wheeled armored personnel carrier catches fire in Myanmar

Chinese-made Type 92 wheeled armored personnel carrier catches fire in eastern Myanmar.

The fire on Myanmar Army Type 92 armoured personnel carrier in Tachileik border town occurred at around 9:45 P.M., local media said.

In the footage, filmed in Tachileik on Wednesday, firemen can be seen battling the fire in the burnt-out armoured personnel carrier at the side of the road.

According to news reports, the Chinese-made Type 92 wheeled armored personnel carrier was transporting troops to military range near the border with Thailand when the engine caught fire.

Fortunately, nobody was injured in the accident with Type 92 armoured personnel carrier.

Type 92 is an armoured personnel carrier designed and built by the China North Industries Group Corporation (Norinco). It has a crew of three men, and is fully amphibious, being driven in the water by shrouded propellers. Constructed of welded steel plates, the interior is divided into three compartments. The driver and commander sit in the front, the engine is in the middle, and the passengers, equipment or turret basket is located in the rear.

The hull of the vehicle protects the crew from small arms fire and shell splinters. The vehicle offers all-round protection against 12.7mm calibre weapon systems.

Type 92 is powered by a Deutz BF8L 413FC diesel engine coupled to a fully automatic transmission with five forward gears and one reverse. The engine delivers maximum power of 320hp.
