Bangladesh confirms acquisition of Russian armored personnel carriers for use in UN missions

In the Yaroslavl region was spotted a train with a considerable number (up to 50 units) of new BTR-80 wheeled armored personnel carriers, white-painted UN peacekeeping forces. According to Russian media, that was wheeled armored personnel carriers ordered by armed forces of Bangladesh.

Later, sources in the Bangladesh Army confirmed that  the acquisition of an additional batch of Russian armored personnel carriers (APCs) will be implemented Bangladesh for use in UN peacekeeping missions. The contract  with JSC “Rosoboronexport” signed at the end of 2014 or in 2015,on purchase of the armored personnel carriers  for acquisition of additional 330 vehicles.

The BTR-80 8×8 armoured personnel carrier, manufactured by the Arzamas machinery Construction Plant of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, is intended to carry personnel on the battlefield and provide close fire support. It can also carry out reconnaissance, combat support and patrol missions.

It entered service with the Russian Army in the late 1980s and has since been used in a number of military conflicts, including UN peacekeeping operations.

The vehicle is in production and the Russian Army ordered 100 in 2006. The vehicle is also in service with the Ukraine and has been sold to Hungary, Turkey, Macedonia and Bangladesh.
