Turkish army destroyed 12 PKK positions in airstrikes against the terrorist group in Iraq

The Turkish army destroyed 12 PKK positions in airstrikes against the terrorist group in northern Iraq, military said early Monday.

Reporting by Sefa Sahin for aa.com.tr

According to a statement issued by the Turkish General Staff, fighter jets carried out the airstrikes in the Avasin-Basyan and Qandil regions on Sunday between 8.01-9.03 pm (17.01-1803GMT).

The PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU — resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July last year.

Since then, more than 300 civilians and nearly 800 security personnel have been martyred. Around 8,000 PKK terrorists have been killed or apprehended.
