Brazil sends troops to Rio de Janeiro to fight organized crime

The president of Brazil sent the Armed Forces to combat the violence of Narco drug traffickers in the City of Rio de Janeiro. That was reported by planobrazil.com.

Nearly a hundred members of the security forces have been killed in Rio this year. Some 8,500 soldiers and hundreds of police and highway patrol officers have been deployed on to the streets of Brazil’s second city to fight organized crime.

President Michel Temer signed a decree allowing the use of the armed forces in Rio de Janeiro state, the official government gazette announced.

Temer plans to mobilize 10,000 soldiers altogether.

The operation aims in particular to fight organized crime in this city of 6.5 million people, Defense Minister Raul Jungmann told a news conference.
