India begins WhAP 8×8 deliveries to Morocco

Key Points
  • Tata Advanced Systems delivered the first WhAP 8x8 armored vehicles to the Royal Moroccan Army under a local production agreement.
  • The vehicles are produced at a new 20,000-square-meter factory in Morocco that began operations in 2025.

Tata Advanced Systems Limited has delivered the first batch of WhAP 8×8 wheeled armored vehicles to the Royal Moroccan Army.

As noted by the company, the WhAP 8×8 is a wheeled armored platform jointly developed by Tata Advanced Systems Limited and India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation. The vehicle is designed as a modular armored platform intended for a range of combat and support missions.

Morocco reached an agreement with the company in 2024 to locally produce the WhAP 8×8 armored vehicle. The arrangement includes domestic manufacturing and adaptation of the platform to meet the operational requirements of the Moroccan Armed Forces.

In 2025, Tata Advanced Systems established a new production facility in the Berrechid area near Casablanca to support the program. The company said the factory covers approximately 20,000 square meters and represents Morocco’s largest defense manufacturing site to date. The facility entered operation three months ahead of schedule, with the first vehicles delivered in October 2025.

The WhAP 8×8 armored vehicle, manufactured by Tata Advanced Systems Limited and operated by the Royal Moroccan Army, is intended to provide a balance of protection, mobility, and adaptability. The platform can be configured for multiple roles, including infantry transport, command and control, and support missions.

Tata Advanced Systems said the program reflects a broader industrial partnership rather than a one-time delivery. Local production in Morocco is expected to support workforce development, supply chain localization, and long-term sustainment of the fleet.

Tata Advanced Systems wrote, “First lot of WhAP 8×8 handed over to the Royal Moroccan Army, Kingdom of Morocco. Strengthening partnerships. Delivering proven capability. Made in Morocco.”

Morocco has in recent years expanded its defense procurement and domestic industrial capacity, focusing on armored vehicles, air defense, and unmanned systems. The WhAP 8×8 program aligns with Rabat’s stated goal of increasing local defense manufacturing while maintaining operational ties with multiple international partners.
