Pilots of  Russian Aerospace Forces military transport aviation crews performed taking off and landing of An-22 on grass landing strip for the first time in the last 20 years.

In the course of the field training with military transport aviation command staff, crews of Il-76, An-22 and an-26 performed more than 50 flights in complex weather conditions.

Landing on a snow strip was one of the most difficult flight elements. Snow blanket make it difficult to define the distance from the ground. Therefore, snow was tamped down by the special hardware vehicles in order to allow 200-ton aircraft landing.

The task was complex because of imitation of different nonstandard situation, including engine and heading device failure.

According to the 2015 results, Command of military transport aviation was defined as a best formation of the Aerospace Forces. Last year, transport aviation crews performed landing on the Arctic airfield on Alexandra Land of the Franz Joseph Land Archipelago.
