Russia commissions two new 21980 project «Grachonok» anti-terror vessels

January 14, on the  Gadzhievo Northern Fleet submarine forces main base a naval flag-raising ceremony was held on two new 21980 project Grachonok anti-terror vessels. One of them was provided a name of Unarmeec Zapolyarya.

Due to the flag raising, these vessels officially allotted the underwater anti-sabotage forces of the Northern Fleet. By order of the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy one of them was provided with a name : Unarmeec Zapolyarya.

The Northern Fleet experts pointed a high effectiveness of the equipment for providing security and defense of the naval home stations and military facilities, among other from the potential terrorist threat.

Counter sabotage Project 21980 boat (“Grachonok” code) is a class of boats of water region patrol, designed for the Russian Navy. Project 21980 designed to combat sabotage and terrorist forces and means in the waters of bases and near the approaches to them, as well as to assist the Border Service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in solving the problems of preservation and protection of the state border of Russia.
