North Korean state media claims the country has tested a “a new type of anti-aircraft guided weapon.”

State-run media KCNA said on Saturday that Kim Jong Un watched the test and said that defects in the system have been fixed.

The South Korean military said they detected a firing in the North, but was not sure if the instances were connected.

The news came just hours after U.S, South Korean, and Japanese leaders came together to take a pledge to work together to stop North Korea from advancing its nuclear missile program.

The report said the Academy of National Defense Science had organized the test. It said that the mass production of the new anti-aircraft weapon was underway.

North Korea conducted a ballistic missile test a week ago. The country has been making efforts to upgrade its weapon systems amid threats of military action against it by Washington. It has recently developed a long-range missile capable of striking the United States’ mainland and has in recent weeks tested its intermediate-range ballistic missile.
