Military Vehicles Manufacturing in Algerian Constantine

The Algerian Company of Manufacturing of Special Vehicles, Rheinmetall-Algeria-Spa, created in Constantine (431 km east of Algiers) as part of the military industrial development strategy initiated by the People’s National Army (ANP) is an “armoured” promise to contributing to the recovery the national economy.

Based in Ain Smara, close to the East-West Highway, the joint venture, in charge of the manufacturing of armoured vehicles of type Fuchs-2 6 x 6, is one of the promising projects in the mechanical industry in Algeria.

The manufacturing of these armoured vehicles will be launched in “early 2015,” according to information provided by military officials. They bet on an annual production of 120 vehicles of this type, with an integration rate expected to reach 30% after five years.

While waiting for the “imminent” delivery of production workshops, “alternative backup workshops” have been set up to allow the installation of the necessary manufacturing equipment, officials explained during a guided visit to the plant, in the industrial zone for the engineering industry, in Ain Smara, near Constantine.

This company, created under a partnership between Algeria, represented by the Ministries of National Defence, Industry and Mining, and foreign investors notably the German designer Rheinmetall and the Aabar Investments PJS, is framed by the Algerian law, including the provisions of the Finance Law for 2009 which states that the party Algerian is majority stakeholder.

Considered as a new concept in terms of development, the choice of partnerships with worldwide renowned technology shareholders will enable Algeria to benefit from the advanced technology, “absorb” them with technical assistance and “really share them by using an effective training under experts’ supervision,” Colonel Badawi told APS, adding that the transfer of know-how and technology are among the main clauses of this partnership.
