Allison Transmission will feature its product lines for military vehicles at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference, IDEX 2017, Feb. 20-23 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The biennial event attracts more than 100,000 attendees from all over the world.
Allison transmissions are suitable for light-, medium- and heavy-duty military wheeled and tracked vehicles, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, self-propelled howitzers, and tactical wheeled vehicles. The company’s stand (07-C28) will feature the Specialty Series™ transmission, for use in wheeled military vehicles, dissected to make visible its internal design and components; and 3D-printed scale models of the X200™ and X1100™ for tracked vehicles. In addition to demonstrating the transmissions’ mechanicals, the scale models will show how the transmissions integrate with complete powerpacks.
Allison’s Military Series™ is designed for tracked vehicles up to 63,503 kg (140,000 lbs.) and diesel or turbine engines with ratings up to 1,120 kW (1,500 hp). Both X200 and X1100 transmissions feature a cross-drive design that integrates steering and braking into one compact and rugged unit. With four forward and two reverse ranges and full-power hydrostatic steering for smooth, efficient control, these models are equipped with fully electronic controls for use with modern engines and a torque converter with an automatic lock-up clutch for smooth, efficient starts and stops.
Allison’s Specialty Series, suitable for engines up to 800 hp (597kW), is engineered to adapt and operate efficiently, offering unrivaled performance in wheeled military applications. It has close or wide ratio gearing, two engine-driven Power Take-Off (PTO) provisions, and 5th Generation advanced electronic controls to enhance operation, with the option of an integral output retarder for better vehicle braking and reduced brake wear.
